About Lamaze Childbirth Education Classes

This prenatal series is composed of six classes encompassing the Lamaze Philosophies and Principles that encourage respect for all birthing families through education and support through pregnancy, labour, birth, and the postpartum/postnatal time. These classes encourage creating a network of support, communication, and openness with your birthing team.

The focus on the Lamaze principles acknowledges that birth is a normal, natural, and healthy process, and every birthing person has a right to understand their birthing options. We will strive to assist all birthing people to build confidence in their ability to give birth and care for their baby in a supportive and nourishing way. To promote this goal, these classes will use Lamaze’s “Six Healthy Birth Practices®”

  • Let labour start on its own (when possible)
  • The importance of movement and changing positions in labour
  • Having appropriate birth support
  • Avoid interventions that are not medically necessary
  • Birth as the body feels led
  • Keeping the birthing person and baby together following the birth

Additional information regarding feeding and caring for your baby will also be discussed.

These sessions will not be recorded for the confidentiality and privacy of the participants.

About the facilitator
Marie Steiner (she/her), CD/PCD (DONA), (LCCE), Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula

It is both a joy and a privilege for me to share the skills for a healthy birth with all participants. I have experience from my own four births and the births of my grandchildren (now totalling 5).

My experience teaching prenatal classes, attending births as a doula, and supporting new families in their homes in the early days and weeks with their new child gives me a broad and comprehensive perspective of the needs of all family members. Additionally, I have been blessed to work as a birth and postpartum doula for the last 6 years. It is rewarding for me when a birthing family can look back at a positive birth experience and focus ahead with skills to care for their baby.

In addition to this wonderful career, I love to spend time with my family and friends. When not at home I can often be found hiking, kayaking, and enjoying time in nature. I have a lovely husband and a sweet dog who often go on adventures with me.
