About Human Milk Feeding 101

This is a 2-part Human Milk Feeding 101 class being held on April 19th &  April 26th. 

In class one (April 19th from 1 - 2pm PT), we will talk about anatomy, benefits and risks to infant feeding methods, lactation hormones, skin to skin benefits for family, optimal latching/positioning, expected colostrum/milk/diaper amounts, and safe sleep environments.

In class two (April 26th from 1 - 2pm PT), we discuss cup-feeding, mammary compressions, labour medications and lactation; preparing for medical-interventions at birth, when medical supplementation may be needed, engorgement, and infant sleep schedules. 

These sessions will not be recorded for the confidentiality and privacy of the participants.

About the facilitator

Stephanie George (Oneida Nation/French Canadian) is an Indigenous Midwife and International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. She is President of the International Lactation Consultant Association (2022-2024); teaches Indigenous Health at McMaster University and teaches Cultural Humility at York University. In her spare time, attends theatre and gives back by serving as Chair of Grandview Theatre and on the Board of Directors for the Waterford Old Town Hall Association.
